WWE Retro figures are the spiritual successor to the WWF Hasbro figures of the 1990s. Small, chunky and packed with "action moves," Mattel introduced the line in 2018, creating a nostalgia fix for long-time collectors, while also creating something fun for newer figure collectors.
A menu of reviews for each series in the collection can be found at the bottom of this page. For now, let's take a closer look at what Mattel has been calling the Retro Tag Team 2-Pack, sold exclusively through Ringside Collectibles.
The resurrected Retro lines that have been coming out since January 2022 have been phenomenal, and following the nWo set that, Mattel made one exclusively for D-Generation X. For those curious, inside the box are two separate packages, each with two figures and resealable card-backs.
The first package contains The New Age Outlaws. While Road Dogg looks slightly awkward as a "jumper" figure, they at least went through the trouble of giving him his accurate gear, right down to his Road Dogg T-shirt. Note that his hands are also in the "Suck It!" pose that many of the DX WWE Legends figures can be posed.
It's always a bit shocking to see Billy Gunn, who has been working for the competition for over five years now, still having WWE figures made. This is a great rendering of Mr. Ass, right down to the lime green trunks and bandana on his head.
The second two-pack contains Triple H and Chyna. Triple H is wearing similar-style trunks to his first WWE Retro figure; however, his punch/clothesline action suits The Game better than his previous "jumper" style figure.
Chyna is one of only three female figures in the entire Hasbro/Retro line, and clearly the best of those three. Mattel got her likeness just about perfect, and without the chunky "Hasbro" body style that has followed many of these figs around.
Overall, this set is another home run, and pairs well with the nWo four-pack as well as many of the Hasbro/Retro figures from a similar vintage.
